Mission
NPC’s overarching mission is to sponsor, participate in, and promote the scientific analyses of the appropriate use of pharmaceuticals and the clinical and economic value of improved health outcomes through pharmaceutical innovation. Evidence-based medicine (EBM) represents a new priority for NPC, building on NPC’s long history of working with researchers, patients, medical professionals, and payers, including employers and government officials. Supported by research-based pharmaceutical member companies, NPC sponsors and conducts research and education projects showing how the appropriate use of pharmaceuticals improves both patient treatment and cost outcomes in the overall health care environment. For over 50 years, the NPC has provided useful information to a variety of health care stakeholders, including patients, clinicians, payers and policy makers.
The NPC actively partners with other groups that have sufficient interest in the results to provide support in kind. Through these partnerships and other research-based initiatives, we are able demonstrate the theoretical value of pharmaceuticals through practical, evidence-based application. The programs and initiatives detailed elsewhere in this site exemplify the power of these partnerships.
Our Board of Directors consists of a representative from each member company. The annual dues paid by our members make up NPC’s core budget, which funds research-based projects, ongoing educational activities and the day-to-day operations of the Council.
